She's worked for numerous top media organizations across the globe. Her time at The Washington Post was spent covering several Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis, football and basketball. In 2004, Nichols moved on to ESPN for a period of nine years where she won 2 Emmy Awards and appeared on some of the network's most popular shows, such as SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. She also worked as an anchor for Monday Night Football on the network. Next, she moved on into CNN sports and then Turner. The first show she created and hosted was her own show, Unguarded together with Rachel Nichols, and aired every week on CNN and CNN International. It was watched by millions of viewers across the globe. Nichols was a reporter at TNT in the time period in charge of NBA broadcasts, including playoff games, regular season games or teams from the All-Star league. The reporter also reported on golf, baseball, and Final Four broadcasts for CBS as well as TBS. It is the only nomination in the 42 years that have preceded the award for a female among more than 200 nominated contenders.
