Sagal was born on January 19 1954, in Los Angeles to a family of show business executives with five children. The mother of Sagal, Sara Zwilling, was a performer (stage name Sara Macon),[3] producer, and TV writer who passed away due to heart disease in the year 1975, and Sagal's father, Boris Sagal, worked as a television director. The father of her Ukrainian Jewish heritage was also one of the Ukrainian immigrant. The grandparents of her maternal grandmother were Amish. [5] In 1977, Sagal's dad married actress/dancer Marge Champion. The couple were married just a few years before his accidental passing away on the set the miniseries World War III in 1981. 2][6][7(Sagal's father was a dancer and actor). Sagal has three children who are actors. Her younger sisters Jean (Jennifer) and Liz Sagal, and her brother Joey Sagal, are both actresses. David Sagal is an actor and is the husband of McNally Sagal. [8] Sagal as well as her siblings lived within Brentwood, Los Angeles. Norman Lear (sitcom writer and producer) is her godfather. [9] In 2016, each of Katey and Norman confessed that she was not only his goddaughter, and that he had also brought her parents into contact with each their respective parents. [10] [citation needed] Sagal declared herself to be an ethnically Jewish with no formal religious experiences. Sagal was also a Palisades High School alumnus.
